This is one great book, full of tons of even greater information. I truly enjoyed reading it. Too many books about Marketing your business deliver hyped information, which isn’t really worth anything. “Grow Yourself Rich” delivers because using this Manual actually works! The author Jay North provides a vast amount of really useful information from helpful websites, and SO much more!

There was only one thing, which puzzled me: Why does this wonderful book not have more reviews? Obviously it is being bought and read, AND – it delivers. I have come to the conclusion that maybe some successful business people don’t want to reveal, how they get helpful information.

If I could give it 20 stars I would.

This is a great book for any beginners trying to market ANY business. While to me, some of the iideas seemed like no-brainers, it still assisted me with my small business. “Grow Yourself Rich” shows you how you can use different avenues to really help you get your message out there. Was a very easy read, not a long book, but was still helpful for me. Hopefully it will help you too!

Tons of tips and tricks for the beginners out there! I enjoyed reading this easy to understand guide on what to do & why. I now better understand the various ways described in Jay North’s book, to pump up sales, but also just to engage my clients. Marketing can be tricky for someone like myself who is just kinda winging it. At least now I have a lot of different avenues to try out, thankfully the book contained links also !!

I’m currently in a business class and I saw “Grow Yourself Rich “ and wanted to try it out. It’s great and I feel like it was really informative which is what I was looking for and I really recommend this. This book is basically a business/marketing plan with an Organic Gardening slant. If you’re looking for a “how-to” book about Gardening, this is probably not it. However if you are a farmer, looking to start/run your farm as a business, and you’ve never had a business class in your life – this book WILL help you. I’m a marketing consultant & student who would like to have a small farm. I thought I was getting a book teaching me about soil condition, rotating crops and irrigation. Instead it’s Business 101, with true stories about the author’s experience and these true stories are motivational.

So – it’s a great book for farmers who don’t know much about business, but not a good buy for business people who don’t know much about farming.

This book is quick and straight to the point. There is absolutely no fluff here. This book is informative about what you can do online and offline to increase your business’s profile to current and potential clients/customers. This can be used by new business’s or a business that has been around a while and needs some new life added to it. It is easily understood information. To the often overlooked ‘business side’ of the farming proposition. It’s not enough to want to grow your own food, you have to have a plan and this author walks you through the process that will lead you to success!

This book is a Must Have for all you Do IT Yourself-ers who are just starting out and don’t know how to market your business. Loads and loads of ideas in this book as well as additional resources!! As a librarian in a small farm area, I review a lot of books for aspiring small farmers. This is one of the best overviews for those who want to start a small, sustainable, and profitable farm. It has useful principles for planning the business, management, and production aspects of farming.

This is a great book. I have taken Ag business, economics, and marketing in college and this book took all three semester length classes and simplified it like I couldn’t imagine. Very well organized and extremely educational. Thank you Jay North for making my life easier. It is a great book whether you have experience or none with business. You can take the principles and apply them to any industry, not just agriculture.

“How could it be so easy? I was fully engaged from the second I began reading this book. Jay does not sugarcoat anything. He does not lie to you. He tells you what worked for him and why it will work for you too. I’m very satisfied with the results I’ve seen so far in my own business.” – Jack S.

“I have prayed for more money for years, and my husband and I have always had just a little, but not any extra for the vacations we’ve always wanted to take, and the mortgage we’ve always wished we could pay off. I made it my goal this past year to get myself out of debt through a side business on Etsy and help my husband out with the bills. We’ve saved up a few thousand dollars this year alone. I’m amazed at how well this is working.” – Nancy K.

“In a desperate moment I searched for books about personal finance, hoping to find something that could teach me how to get out of my dire situation. I was very lucky to find this book in particular. I wanted an easy answer, but this book provided me with a path to true happiness.” – Kari D.

“I wish I had found this book years ago. I sent a copy to my daughter, who has recently purchased her first home with her fiancé. I don’t want them to make the same financial mistakes her father and I made when we were her age. I want her to be wise and understand that while money is not the enemy, it can very easily ruin your life if you don’t keep your head on straight. I appreciate the truth that I found in this book, even if it hurt to hear!”

– Shelley M.

“I read the book with my wife. Very nice! I appreciate the fact that someone who reached success in their business is willing to share how the rich get rich—and stay that way—instead of looking down on the rest of us like we’re inferior. I’ve tried for twenty years to discover the secret to being rich and I found more than enough advice in this book to realize that the answer lies within your heart, not your wallet.”

As Jay points out so well in his books Grow Yourself Rich, “this is a marketing manual for anyone with a product or service to sell.” Oh my, it’s more, it is a plethora of marketing data that anyone in any business person should read and put to use. Yes, it was written for organic farmers, but the value this book can be put to use for any kind of business, product or service. It has helped me triple my income doing what I love as an artist and designer. Thank you Jay for sharing this with me! I will be referring my friends to your website.

“No matter what your personal financial goals are, live richly.” Jay speaks these words that hit me like a ton of bricks. I sat for about twenty minuets thinking about that and what he meant. Tired of the same ol job and one I don’t enjoy at that, I seen this book for sale and although gardening was of no interest to me, but making money is, desperate, I bought the book. I was raised that having a lot of money is what made you rich, and made you someone important to everyone else. I have worked hard my whole life, and I have yet to become rich. With a wife, two children, 2 dogs, and not much anything else but bills, and all I seem to do is receive more. I’ve always been passionate about fixing cars, but that’s a little difficult in the middle of no where and without traffic. This book not only has inspired me to not give up on becoming successful, but it has also opened up my eyes to the possibility of a new passion in gardening with my wife & children, but most of all, this book, and that statement has helped me to realize that I am already rich, with a beautiful wife, amazing children, and a roof over our heads. Thank you Jay for the inspiration, confirmation and guidance and for sharing your wealth with us.

Heck, I would have just purchased a list of the inserts for this price!

It might be possible to improve on this book but it is extremely hard to imagine how. No matter what your accomplishments in the area of vegetable or market gardening, this book can give you some ideas for how to do some things better. Jay North has done a great job of explaining his innovative techniques in a simple and easy to read way, not to mention that the book rewards you with jewels of information. I have a bunch of friends all psyched to live off the land, but truly taking that step out away from the city and into the country is a big deal. If you are looking to make that move, this book will give you a huge boost in the right direction!

As someone who runs a small business, I would recommend the book to anyone who wants to succeed at building a business and growing a rich life for themselves and their community. And as someone who is also a farmer, this is probably the most important book I’ll read this year because farmers must be able to earn a living, despite how many laws our government make against it. Gardening is a hobby, farming is a BUSINESS. So, grab a copy of the GYR Manuscript and start planning & planting for profit, rather than making do with “what’s left over”.

I have followed much of Jay Norths work in various areas of teachings, seeings how he is so knowledgeable on so many topics. I have recently purchased a Yacht to retire upon and become as far off the grid as possible, while also becoming self sustainable. Gardening has always been a type of therapy for me and I wish to continue to do so, even on a Yacht. I hadn’t thought of this till right after I bought the boat. I then bought the book! The book was a must and I knew it. I’m going to find out how to do this with Jay Norths help, and with this book, you watch. Thank you Jay North for the inspiration on growth, self dependence, and success! As far as the Marketing aspect that Jay writes of, I never knew so much was involved in marketing your product, but Jay gives laid out instructions on how to do so. Im glowing with excitement to come up with ways to incorporate his ideas in my endeavors…. and glowing with excitement waiting for the look on peoples faces when they see a beautiful home and garden floating down their rivers. I hope it sells itself!

There is no pretense that farming is not hard work, but Author Jay North has broken it down in such a way that you can learn to manage all aspects of farming. I would buy this book for anyone thinking about farming, and it will remain off my bookshelf to be used as a reference over & over. Jay North’s book “Grow Yourself Rich” should be required reading for anyone who is producing agricultural products on any scale, not just a small one. Jay’s background, experience and ability to communicate through his writing is unsurpassed in the field of gardening journalism. The “Foreword” section alone is worth the price of the book.

There are so many books written about how to grow things, how to raise animals, organics, etc and so on. However, this is one of very few on the subject of small gardening that actually puts the whole picture together in terms of creating and sustaining a business and a lifestyle. Jay North expects that the reader is serious about surviving and thriving from their gardening activities and shares information specific to the “business” of gardening in a sensitive and ethical manner. It shouldn’t be a secret that the small gardener needs to take advantage of every asset on the property year round, in addition to wearing every hat in a small business: Planning, marketing, sales, accounting, production, maintenance, networking, etc. Excellent general information and many specifics, too. Well worth the read if you are serious about learning to garden for profit.

Many of us on the sidelines believe that anyone can garden, and all it takes is a willingness to work hard (the trite saying about hard-working ditch diggers getting rich comes readily to mind). When we think of the gardener, we often have one (malicious) stereotype in mind- that of the dumb country folk with a ‘gee aw shucks’ outlook on gardening and life. Basically, we really do not think it takes brains in order to garden successfully. I mean, after all, you take some seeds, toss in a little fertilizer of your choice, water them and come back in a few months to collect your crop and get your pesos – just how hard could that be?

Well, speaking as someone who is thoroughly new to gardening, never once has gardened, and is inquisitive about the practice of organics, self sufficiency, and income, after considerable investigation I can tell you the prospective reader that no matter how hard they work, some people will not be able to stay in the gardening business for long. We on the sidelines do not think gardening is difficult because we do not think about the Practice of gardening and the business of gardening. If your experience of gardening up to this point is shopping at your local natural foods co-op searching for flowers for your wife cause you messed up, or you’re perusing the stalls at the local weekly farmer’s market, or wandering the aisles at some trendy, eco-hip retailer like Whole Foods or Wilds Oats (who have skillfully co-opted environmentalism as a path to insane riches), and you are considering going into gardening as a vocation, then perhaps this book IS also for you, because there is so much more to it than that yet Jay North amazingly simplifies the processes.

If you are drawn to organic gardening because of the lifestyle, and you turn this lifestyle into a business, then it behooves you to make damn certain that your business can pay for itself, ( well it should ) because after all, your business is your lifestyle and your lifestyle is your business. The lifestyle will not work out if the business end does not pay. In fact, the business end may place quite severe limitations on the lifestyle you can reasonably expect to achieve, which in many cases will be well below what you are currently accustomed to. Unlike a 9 to 5 gig with some godless multinational, you can not simply just pack up and leave (this assumes implicitly that the heartless ………. have not fired you in the latest round of restructurings), and if the business end does not work out, you lose not only your lifestyle, but also your home. For me, the true heart of the book and the real message of the text are contained in the Foreword.

That said, the true purpose of this book is to get you, the prospective reader who may be thinking of getting into Organic Gardening to start thinking about the Practice of Organic Gardening, and the Business of it. This book is a true, worth while investment for the serious minded…. to say the least.

I would like to start up a small garden market and was looking for a good book to get me started. This book provided more than I asked for! It was very thorough on every detail of what would be involved. “Get Yourself Rich” to me, amounts to the ‘bible’ of organic growing. It is informative and inspirational in equal measure! Practical idealists, the Shakers, demonstrated that it is possible for man to create the environment and way of life he wants, not by complaining about the system but by building their own domain arranged to their liking. Jay North and his wife, demonstrated that it is possible to undertake small-scale, gardening without the use of harmful pesticides by using cost-effective, environmentally sustainable methods to produce spectacular results with economy of effort and means. By offering a wealth of ideas; by identifying the most efficient and practical ideas; by offering simple and efficient production techniques; and advising on the most remunerative marketing methods, this book is for the gardener and small farmer who has an unfulfilled dream to established an organic enterprise with minimal expense, like me. The author has demonstrated that when low cost production methods are allied with the right marketing practices, the viability of the 1-5 acre farm producing high quality food is not only possible but also enjoyable and can be extremely profitable. I received way more information than I had originally anticipated, I thank you for the abundance of knowledge, information & insight you have produced and shared with me Jay.

I am beginning to wonder if there is an area that the Author hasn’t covered in “Get Yourself Rich.” Just even a simple area, perhaps small? Some area that would be considered simple to anyone when it comes to the topic of Gardening. No, seriously, after reading this, that”s all I want to know.

“I’ve always been interested in organic farming, but living in the city, it didn’t seem possible to pursue this. I’ve been very inspired by the Norths. I’ve started looking into options right here in the city. I hope to turn this into a small side business and see where it takes me!” – Lindsey R.

“I’ve been in the farming business for thirty years and I appreciated reading about the Norths’ experience in the industry. They are a great example of what happens when you have faith and apply ethical principles in your business.” – Ken D.

“This is an amazing story. I learned so much about running a successful business, and I’m considering starting my own on the side. I feel very motivated and encouraged by the possibility that I might be able to make more money on the side, simply by following my dreams.” – Ted M.

“The title intrigued me more than anything—‘growing yourself rich’? How is such a thing even possible, in this economy? It seemed like every time I made any significant amount of money, I had to spend it on some unforeseen situation. I graduated college in 2008, right at the beginning of the great recession. Like many of my peers, I wasn’t feeling too hopeful. I took the first sales job I got, in a field completely unrelated to my major, and I’ve been feeling unfulfilled ever since. This isn’t what I was born for. Now, after reading this book, I’ve been inspired to make a serious change. It’s never too late to change direction and have the life you always dreamed of.” – Kim G.

“Reading this book turned the light on for me. I knew instantly that I had to turn my life around. I’ve already wasted too much time working a traditional 9-5 gig and hating it. If you’re having doubts, please read this book. Not only is it interesting to read about Jay and Pamela’s business, the content is very inspiring as well.” – Matt K.

“I’m in marketing, and my husband is in finance. We’re both very passionate about the environment, and organic farming has always been a hobby of ours. We just had our first child, and we’re in the process of selling our condo in the city and purchasing a plot of land to build on in the country. I feel like God is leading us in this new direction, and it’s very exciting. We return to this book whenever we start to have doubts, and Jay’s story encourages us.” – Kay and Jeff C.

“Not only is this book spiritually enlightening, it also provides very important marketing and sales strategies that have been useful for me. Since I read this book and applied Jay’s advice to my own work, I’ve been able to branch out and open a second clothing boutique! I’m now able to take weekends off as well, which is great, because I can spend much more time with my family. Jay has taught me so many important lessons in life and business. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to work less hours and make more money.” – Cynthia C.

———————————————————————–

“Jay and Pamela have taught me so much about marketing through this book. My business partner and I have seen a tremendous improvement since we applied these techniques. These strategies really work.” – Kara M.

———————————————————————–

“I appreciated the candor and honesty with which Jay spoke about his experiences in the farming business. Many of the strategies he talked about are so simple and yet so effective that it truly amazes me that more business owners aren’t aware of them! I am going to let go of my fear and hopefully make big changes in the next year.” – Barbara J.

———————————————————————–

“I have a renewed admiration for those in the farming industry as a result of reading this wonderful, informative book. Although I am in a very different line of work, I really enjoyed Jay’s book and took a lot away from it. He suggested tactics that are so easy. I’ve recently started an online store as a side business and I’m feeling very encouraged about my next business meeting.” – Tim H.
